Dear St. Edward’s family…
With the new stricter lockdown measures that have just gone into effect, we realise that many people will be under higher stress and experiencing a sense of loss. Matthias and I want you to know that we are available to chat so please do reach out. These are difficult times for us all and we hope the church can be an anchor of hope and place of comfort.
As for church worship services under the new restrictions, I have received word from the diocese that in-person worship is still permissible. We realise the dire figures that are coming out in terms of new cases and we understand our responsibility and civic duty to keep people safe. That said, we also realise that we are the church and need to offer a spiritual refuge in these difficult times.
With this in mind, we have decided with the chapter that we will continue to keep the church open for worship. However, we will need to take all necessary precautions to keep everyone as safe as possible. This means that we will continue with the Friday 10.30am service as usual, but we will limit spaces at the Sunday 11am service to 30 people (children under 10 will not be counted). If you know you are coming, please email Emily at email@example.com to be added to the list (if you plan on coming multiple Sundays you can just email once). The service guidelines will be as follows:
– Please sanitise hands upon entering the church
– Please sit at acceptable distances from those not in your household
– There can be no mingling/chatting between households before/after services
– We will not be able to serve coffee/tea or offer children’s Sunday school
– Please exit the church with adequate distance after the service finishes
Though the following guidelines will slightly change our worship, we thought this was a better option than closing the church. We would, however, encourage anyone who is at risk or concerned about the virus to continue to join us via the livestream. We’re so happy that we can offer this and it may be that you’ll prefer this option over the winter months which is perfectly fine. We also hope to create more zoom Bible studies/gatherings as well.
If circumstances change over the next few weeks, we will continue to keep you updated by email. We continue to cherish your prayers at this time and your prayers for the life of the church. Even amidst the lockdown, we hope that we can continue to be a light and a place of hope trusting that Christ is fully with us in all our joys and sufferings especially as we celebrate his Epiphany on this day.
