The week commencing 11 November

Next Sunday is Remembrance Sunday. The day at St Edward’s will start with a Prayer Book communion service at 8.00 am. Then the 11.00 am service will be a special one for Remembrance Sunday, with readings, poems and prayers for the occasion. There will also be a special choir. Fraser will preach. The service will start slightly earlier than usual, at 10.58 am, so that we can keep the two minutes silence at 11.00 am.

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist Matt Russell will begin a series of sermons on new testament themes, talking this time about Abraham and Sarah as a model of waiting.

On Monday at 9.00 pm there will be a student-led Taize service.

On Wednesday (Nov 14th) at 8.00 pm there will be On The Edge, at which Malcolm will talk about Living With War: Remembrance through the eyes of Neil Young and others.

On Thursday at 12.30 pm, there will be the usual prayers for reconciliation and healing.

On Friday there will be a Prayer Book Communion service at 10.30 am, led by Alan Cole. The meditation group will meet at 5.30 pm.

The week commencing 7 November

Next Sunday at St Edward’s there will start with a Prayer Book communion service at 8.00 am.

The 11.00 am service will be Odyssey, with Mark Vernon, a well-known journalist and author, who will talk about “Church: Can’t Live With It; Can’t Live Without It”.

The LGBT group will meet at 3.30 pm, with Mark Vernon again.

The 5.00 pm Eucharist will include a commemoration of the departed, with an opportunity to light candles in front of the altar during the service. Fraser will preach, on what we can believe about the parted, and how to handle our memories of them, and our grief.

There will be a student-led Taize service on Monday at 9.00 pm. All welcome.

On Tuesday at 5.30 pm, Fraser will give the first of two talks on ‘Christianity and Counselling: The View Both Ways’. This first talk will deal with the view from Christianity. 

(There is no On The Edge on Wednesday this week.)

The week commencing 28 October

Next Sunday at St Edward’s there will be the usual Prayer Book communion service at 8.00 am.

At 11.00 am there will be a a service of commemoration of saints and martyrs, at which Fraser will preach about those especially associated with St Edward’s church, and candles will be lit at the memorials to the martyrs of the reformation, and to F D Maurice.

The Women’s network meets at 3.00 pm on Sunday.

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist, David Pickersgill will contribute to series on Christian lifestyle, talking this week about creativity.  We will be joined at the 5.00 Eucharist by Br Christopher Martin SSF (former Chris Boden) who will lead the intercessions.

The student-led Taize service will be on Mondays at 9.00 pm.

On Tuesday at 7.30 pm, there will be an important meeting, organised by Ruth Armstrong, about developing prison volunteering, a significant development in our reconciliation ministry.

On Wednesday there is On The Edge at 8.00 pm at which Grahame Davies will contribute Music and Words on Remembrance and Rebirth.

On Thursday at 12.30 pm, there will be the usual prayers for reconciliation and healing, led on this occasion by Amanda Goodman.

On Friday there will be a Prayer Book Communion service for All Souls Day at 10.30 am, led by Alan Cole. There is a list of names of the departed at the back of the church, to which additional names can be added. They will be read out at this service.
