Rev’d Dr Mark Scarlata appointed Vicar-Chaplain

From Dr Nigel Chancellor:

——

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure as Chairman of the Trustees of St Edward’s, with delegated authority from the Master and Fellows of Trinity Hall, to announce the appointment of

the Rev’d Dr Mark Scarlata

as Vicar-Chaplain of St Edward King and Martyr with effect from Thursday 16th June 2016, when his Presentation and Licensing will take place here at 7pm. You are warmly invited to a reception in Trinity Hall after the Licensing service.

Mark Scarlata is no stranger to most of you as he has been a frequent visiting clergy to St Edward’s during the recent inter-regnum. In addition to his role as senior lecturer and mentor at St Mellitus Theological College in London, he has spent the last three years serving as curate at St Mark’s Church, Newnham. He lives in Cambridge with his wife Bettina and their three children Nathaniel (10), Madeleine (8), and Annabelle (5). During the selection process, Mark revealed a strong love for St Edward’s and an appreciation of the very special contribution that our church has made to the life of Cambridge over the centuries and especially in recent times. I know he looks forward to working with the Chapter and the Church Warden to continue the work of reconciliation and mutual support that has been such a feature of St Edward’s in the past.

On your behalf, I should like to express a special thanks to all those in the congregation who have contributed to the Parish Profile and to the forms of service that are now used on a regular basis. I should especially like to thank Adrian Stacey for his tireless work in this regard, and to Jillian Wilkinson and Brother Christopher Martin for securing visiting clergy to meet the needs of the congregation during the inter-regnum; it has not been an easy time and we owe you a large debt of gratitude.

Finally, I would ask you all to take this opportunity to pray for the ministry of Mark Scarlata and to commit ourselves to a spirit of mutual support within the congregation led by our new Vicar-Chaplain.

Dr Nigel Chancellor DL
