This Week at St. Edwards

The theme of the 11.00 am service at St Edward’s on Sunday will be God and Society. Fraser will explore how Christians can interpret how God is speaking to us and challenging us through events in secular society.

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist Malcolm will begin a series of three sermons on the ‘original blessings’ of money, sex and power, looking this week at money.

There will be Prayer Book Communion Services next week on Sunday at 8.00 am (Bruce Kinsey) and on Friday at 10.30 am (Alan Cole).

There will be lunchtime prayers at 12.30 pm on Thursday (12th), led by Ann Kember and the meditation group will meet at 5.30 pm on Friday (13th), led by Fraser.

This Week at St. Edwards

The 11.00 am service at St Edward’s on Sunday will be a Eucharist, at which Malcolm will talk about what we mean by ‘redemption’, one of those words Christians often use but don’t always explain.

The 5.00 pm Eucharist will be a healing service, with laying on of hands. Fraser will talk about how Jesus prioritises generosity over fairness, in a way that subverts many of our usual assumptions about the structure of society.

There will be Prayer Book Communion Services next week on Sunday at 8.00 am (Andrew Davison) and on Friday at 10.30 am (Alan Cole).

There will be lunchtime prayers at 12.30 pm on Thursday, and the meditation group will meet at 5.30 pm on Friday, both led by Fraser.

I hope we will all pray urgently for peace and reconciliation in Syria and the Middle East. I am pleased that the Archbishop of Canterbury has urged caution about military strikes, and warned about unforeseeable ramifications across the whole Arab and Muslim world.

The Week at St. Edwards (25-31August)

The 11.00 am service at St Edward’s on Sunday will be an Odyssey service. Rebecca Nye, a practitioner, researcher and consultant on children’s spirituality with be talking. There will also be an opportunity to see our new children’s room. After the service there will be a ‘taster’ Godly Play session for adults from 12:15 until 1pm, with an opportunity to ask Rebecca questions during this time. Please note that this session is not suitable for children. We will be starting with a full children’s programme in September. If you would like more details, please speak to Dani or Fraser.

At the 5.00 Eucharist Fraser will preach the first of two sermons on the subversive Jesus, focusing this week on how Jesus is subversive about religion.

There will be prayer book Communion services on Sunday at 8.00 am and Friday at 10.30 am. Lunchtime prayers will continue on Thursdays at 12.30 am.

On Wednesday Aug 28th, there will be informal On The Edge prayers, led by Ann Kember. The meditation group will resume on Friday 30th August, led by Fraser.

This Week at St. Eds (18th-24th Aug)

Sunday 18th of August at St Edward’s will begin with a Prayer Book communion service  at 8:00 am

At 11.00 am there will be the final of our four services on spirituality and the four elements, at which Malcolm will preach. This one will focus on ‘Fire’. This service, and the rest of the series will all feature poetry by Gerard Manley Hopkins

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist  Malcolm will preach the second of two sermons on how to read the Bible. This sermon will focus on  reading the New Testament

On Thursday at 12.30 pm there will be prayers for reconciliation and healing, led by Malcolm.  On Friday there will be a Prayer Book communion service at 10.30, at which Alan Cole will be the celebrant. (The 5.30 pm meditation group will resume on Aug 30th).

This Week at St. Eds (11th-17th Aug)

Sunday 11th of August at St Edward’s will begin with a Prayer Book communion service  at 8:00 am

At 11.00 am there will be the third of four services on spirituality and the four elements, at which Malcolm will preach. This one will focus on ‘Air’. This service, and the rest of the series will all feature poetry by Gerard Manley Hopkins

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist  Malcolm will preach the first of two sermons on how to read the Bible. This sermon will focus on difficulties with reading the Old Testament

On Thursday at 12.30 pm there will be prayers for reconciliation and healing, led by Ann Kember.  On Friday there will be a Prayer Book communion service at 10.30, at which Alan Cole will be the celebrant. (The 5.30 pm meditation group will resume on Aug 30th).

This Week at St. Edwards

Sunday 4th of August July at St Edward’s will begin with a Prayer Book communion service  at 8:00 am at which Malcolm Guite will be celebrant and preacher.

At 11.00 am there will be the second of four services on spirituality and the four elements, at which Malcolm will preach. This one will focus on ‘Earth’. This service, and the rest of the series will all feature poetry by Gerard Manley Hopkins

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist we will keep the feast of the Transfiguration (which actually falls on Tuesday) Malcolm will preach

On Thursday at 12.30 pm there will be prayers for reconciliation and healing, led by Ann Kember.  On Friday there will be a Prayer Book communion service at 10.30, at which Alan Cole will be the celebrant. (The 5.30 pm meditation group will resume on Aug 30th).

This Week at St. Edwards

Sunday 28th July at St Edward’s will begin with a Prayer Book communion service at which Malcolm Guite will be celebrant.

At 11.00 am there will be the first of four services on spirituality and the four elements, at which Malcolm will preach. This one will focus on water, and will include the baptism of Sylvia Hunter.

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist Fraser will conclude his series of sermons on Jesus’ holistic spirituality, focusing on God as Sacred Unity.

On Thursday at 12.30 pm there will be prayers for reconciliation and healing, led by Malcolm.  On Friday there will be a Prayer Book communion service at 10.30, at which Alan Cole will be the celebrant. (The 5.30 pm meditation group will resume on Aug 30th).
