This Week at St. Edwards

Sunday 4th of August July at St Edward’s will begin with a Prayer Book communion service  at 8:00 am at which Malcolm Guite will be celebrant and preacher.

At 11.00 am there will be the second of four services on spirituality and the four elements, at which Malcolm will preach. This one will focus on ‘Earth’. This service, and the rest of the series will all feature poetry by Gerard Manley Hopkins

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist we will keep the feast of the Transfiguration (which actually falls on Tuesday) Malcolm will preach

On Thursday at 12.30 pm there will be prayers for reconciliation and healing, led by Ann Kember.  On Friday there will be a Prayer Book communion service at 10.30, at which Alan Cole will be the celebrant. (The 5.30 pm meditation group will resume on Aug 30th).

This Week at St. Edwards

Sunday 28th July at St Edward’s will begin with a Prayer Book communion service at which Malcolm Guite will be celebrant.

At 11.00 am there will be the first of four services on spirituality and the four elements, at which Malcolm will preach. This one will focus on water, and will include the baptism of Sylvia Hunter.

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist Fraser will conclude his series of sermons on Jesus’ holistic spirituality, focusing on God as Sacred Unity.

On Thursday at 12.30 pm there will be prayers for reconciliation and healing, led by Malcolm.  On Friday there will be a Prayer Book communion service at 10.30, at which Alan Cole will be the celebrant. (The 5.30 pm meditation group will resume on Aug 30th).

The Week at St Edward’s

Next Sunday there will be the usual Prayer Book Communion at 8.00 pm, at which Andrew Davison will be celebrant.

The theme of the 11.00 am service will be the Good Shepherd, and Malcolm will preach. The service will include Godly Play for the children, and the baptism of Zac and Carmen, children of Luis Navarro and Ruth Armstrong.

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist, Fraser will preach the first of two sermons about people whose meetings with Jesus are recorded in St John’s gospel, talking this week about Nicodemus.

On Wednesday at 8.00 pm there will be On The Edge, led by Matt, at which David Pickersgill will talk about ‘The Shadow of Death’ in the songs of Sufjan Stevens.

The student-led Taizé service will continue on Monday at 9.00 pm. On Thursday at 12.30 pm there will be prayers for reconciliation and healing, led by Matt. On Friday, there will be Holy Communion at 10.30 am with Alan Cole, and meditation at 5.30 pm.

Patronal Festival etc St Edward’s

On Saturday (20th) at St Edward’s there will be the Annual Parochial Church Meeting at 2.00 pm, and a Contemplative Eucharist with much silence at 5.00 pm.

Next Sunday there will be the usual Prayer Book Communion at 8.00 pm, at which Alan Cole will be celebrant.

At 11.00 am there will be the Patronal Festival Service. Fraser will preach, and the churchwardens will be admitted to office by the Master of Trinity Hall. The service will be followed by lunch at Trinity Hall (cost £3.00) to which members of any congregation at St Edward’s are invited.

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist, Malcolm will continue his series of sermons on Meeting the Risen Christ, focusing in this last sermon in the series on meeting Christ in one another.

The student-led Taizé service will continue on Monday at 9.00 pm. On Thursday at 12.30 pm there will be prayers for reconciliation and healing, led by Matt. On Friday, there will be Holy Communion at 10.30 am with Alan Cole, and meditation at 5.30 with Fraser.

On Saturday there will be a visit to Coventry as part of our preparations for being admitted to the Community of the Cross of Nails.

The week at St Edward’s

Next Sunday at St Edward’s will begin with the usual 8.00 am service of Holy Communion.

The 11.00 am service will be a special service for Mothering Sunday, at which children with young families will be especially welcome. There will be posies for the children to give to their mothers. Fraser will preach on how our relationships with parents shape our relationship with God.

At 3.30 pm Alfred Corn will talk to the LGBT group about his latest book of poems, ‘Tables’.

At the 5.00 pm Eucharist, Matt Russell will talk about returning from the ‘far country’ in the story of the Prodigal Son, and what is involved for each of us in returning from our own far country.

There will be a special Taizé service on Monday at 9.00 pm with a visit from Br Paolo of the Taizé community. There will be a bring and share meal from 7.00 pm.

On Tuesday at 5.30 pm Malcolm will give the second of three talks on Prayer and the Arts, focusing this week on Praying with Images and Icons

On Thursday at 12.30 pm there will be prayers for reconciliation and healing, led by Matt Russell.

On Friday, as usual, there will be Holy Communion at 10.30 am with Alan Cole; and meditation at 5.30 with Fraser.
